To make it more difficult for someone else to guess your password, there are some rules about choosing a password. The password must be at least eight characters in length and must be combination of at least three types of: Uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, spaces and special characters. For example, you won't be able to use a password like "AAAAAAAA" or "11111111", whereas, a password like "Int5]ernet#" is recommended as it incorporates both uppercase and lowercase alpha and numeric characters, along with symbols, and would be difficult to guess.

Other things you can do to make your password more secure:

  • Do not base your password on something that other people know about you, like:
    • significant dates;
    • family names;
    • favourite things;
    • pet names;
    • Physical address;
    • Phone number.
  • Do not use common words that appear in the dictionary;
  • Do not choose the same password you use for other Internet sites.

Managing your password

Once you have chosen a secure password, you need to make sure that nobody else discovers what it is. The are some simple precautions you can take:

  • Do not write your password down;
  • Do not tell anyone what your password is;
  • Do not use your password when people can see what you are typing.

You can change your password from within the Internet Banking Service via the 'Other Services' menu.
